Free Radon Test Kits for Residents

The Bernards Township Health Department has radon testing kits available at no cost for residents of their contractual towns. There are a limited number of kits available, one per homeowner on a first-come basis. It is recommended that they be picked up by December 10, 2021 since they will expire by the end of the year.

Radon is a radioactive gas that occurs naturally. It is odorless, tasteless, and invisible and can cause cancer.

Testing for radon is simple and inexpensive. The free test kit program is made possible by a grant from the NJ Department of Environmental Protection. The DEP Radon Program can also provide a list of certified companies that provide testing services or do-it-yourself test kits – residents can contact the Program at (800) 648-0394 or www.njradon.org.

For more information on radon, contact the Bernards Township Health Department at 908-204-3070.

The Bernards Township  Health Department is the contractual health agency for Bernards Township, Bernardsville Borough, Chester Borough, Long Hill Township, Mendham Borough, and Peapack and Gladstone Borough.
